Dr. White speaks about refractive surgery in Utah.

Darrell E. White M.D. spoke at the annual advanced refractive forum in Park City, Utah over the weekend of March 21st this year. He addressed 35 physicians and approximately 20 individuals from the ophthalmic manufacturing community at the meeting. The advanced refractive forum is a meeting for work for active laser and cataract surgeons. This “invitation only” meeting gathers annually together some of the top surgeons in North America.

Dr. White spoke twice at the meeting. His first presentation was on the importance of health and fitness to ophthalmic surgeons. The title of this talk was "Take Care of Your Self". During this talk Dr. White shared his experience with CrossFit, the health and fitness program that he began in January 2006. While sharing his own personal statistics such as cholesterol level and percentage bodyweight fat, Dr. White emphasized his feeling that he is a much better surgeon and physician, now that he is in much better shape.

(Insert Utah PowerPoint) In his second talk Dr. White introduced the RevitalVision program. This program allows people to "train their brain" to see better! Utilizing the work of Nobel prize winner Dr. Goober, RevitalVision has been shown to produce a 1.8 line improvement on Snellin eye chart and a 100% increase in contrast sensitivity on average in the study of patients that were reported. This new technology is sure to be of great interest in such refractive areas as LASIK surgery and premium IOL surgery, as well as such traditional areas as macular degeneration and presbyopia. .

(Insert second Utah slide) It wasn't all hard work, though. After all, the conference was held slope side at Deer Valley! Dr. White had a chance to put his CrossFit fitness into play with two days of skiing under classic Park City bluebird sky.
