In a healthy eye, light rays enter through the clear cornea, passing through the pupil and then through the lens. Seventy percent of the focusing power comes from the cornea. This light is then focused directly onto the retina. The retina is a series of light -sensitive cells lining the back of the eye. Converting this light into tiny electric impulses, the retina sends these 'information packets' through the optic nerve to your brain where they are then interpreted and converted into images. To return to the camera analogy, your eye is very similar in function to a digital camera, but it is your brain that attaches meaning to the images, converting the data into a picture.

The delicate balance and health of the eye can be disrupted and vision can be effected by a myriad of disorders. In many cases vision loss is not detected right a way.
