Phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs) are the newest addition to the vision correction world! Unlike LASIK or PRK, phakic IOLs are an additive procedure-a lens is added to the eye. And unlike natural lens replacement surgery, the natural lens in the eye is not removed.

There are two notable phakic IOLs. The Verisyse is placed in front of the pupil and is attached on the front of the iris. The Visian ICL is placed in back of the pupil, between the iris and natural lens. Although LASIK and PRK are fantastic procedures for vision correction, there are some patients who cannot have either of these laser procedures. In many cases a phakic IOL is just what is needed to reduce dependence of glasses or contact lenses. In addition, unlike laser vision correction procedures that permanently change your eye and your vision, it is possible to remove or replace phakic intraocular lenses if the need arises.

Not a candidate for laser vision correction? Prescription too high to have LASIK or PRK? Eyes too dry for LASIK? Phakic IOLs are now available at Skyvision Centers and may be just what you need to see what's next!
